Ulu Mosque, Utrecht

With its large dome and pencil-shaped minarets, this Turkish mosque is an eye-catching landmark in the Lombok district of Utrecht. The modern structure is to be found in the heart of the district, just a stone's throw from the central station and clearly visible from the city centre. The building stands out even more after sunset, when green or turquoise lamps light the minarets from within. The mosque has an impressive interior, with a vast prayer hall, several balconies and an ornamented dome. The lighting of the prayer hall is a work of art in itself.
