Cathedral of St Nicholas, Amsterdam

There is a remarkable building opposite Amsterdam’s Central Station. When your eyes get used to its rather dark interior you will discover superb decorations, sculptures, stained-glass windows and mural paintings. The church was built at the end of the nineteenth century, at a time when Roman Catholics could once again profess their faith in public after three centuries of prohibition. The architecture and furnishings proudly proclaim this. The building is a blend of different architectural styles and artistic movements.

Since 2025 the church has been elevated to cathedral.
